Farmers could pick & choose

Farmers were able to pick and choose between the 346 rams on auction at the 18th Konsortium-Merino production sale held on Dombietersfontein.

In total 278 rams were sold at an average price of R5 068. The highest priced ram was bought by Gerio du Plessis from Avontuur, Richmond for R20 000. The second highest price of R19 000 was paid by Telma-boerdery from Tarkastad and two rams were sold for R17 000 each. Hoffman-boerdery from Dewetsdorp bought 23 rams and Lourens van der Linde from Wesselsbron purchased 19.

The 1 187 ewes on the auction averaged R881 a piece. The highest price was R1 100 per ewe for a group of pregnant stud ewes. The sale was administered by KVB, Victoria West and Jakkie Nel from Somerset East was the auctioneer.
