The first exclusively Poll Merino sale in SA, was held on 11 August 2005. Konsortium-Merino, Eddie Prinsloo of Heuningkrans, Smithfield and Eric Naude of Leopardsvlei, Richmond, pooled their resources for this landmark sale. Nowadays, the Triton Poll Merino sales are held bi-annually. They take place in: Caledon, on the 4th Thursday in January; and Bloemfontein, on the 2nd Thursday in August.
Willie Kotze from Jagersfontein, requested and encouraged Konsortium-Merino to start a Poll Merino Stud, due to the fact that farmers in his district were in dire need of improving the wool quality and length of their breeds - without comprimising carcass attributes. True to form, Konsortium accepted the challenge. Two partners were invited to join Konsortium in holding the first exclusively Poll Merino sale. A total of 58 rams were entered for the first Triton Poll Merino sale. The 33 rams on the sale averaged R4 497 each. The highest price of R15 500 was paid by Wikus Bekker from the farm Geluksdam, Edenburg for a Konsortium-ram. The breeders will strive to make these sales annual events.
