Lucky thirteenth

Created on: 14 August 2007

To some the number thirteen is a bad omen (especially if it happens to be a Friday), but at the next Konsortium-Merino sale it is going to prove the opposite for one lucky farmer.

Konsortium-Merino will be holding its 13th production sale on 6 September 2007 on the farm Dombietersfontein, Victoria West. Besides being able to pick and choose between the 190 rams and 2 000 ewes on sale, there will also be a Honda motorbike up for grabs.

For every ram or group of ewes, purchased on Konsortium’s previous 2 sales, your name will be put in a hat. Therefore, the more you bought in September 2006 and February 2007, the better your chances are of winning the CTX200 Bushlander. To qualify for this fantastic bike, buyers from the 11th and 12th production sales need only be present at the upcoming spring auction.

The 190 rams at the forthcoming sale is, once again, a huge offering compared to the 47 per auction on the 60 Merino sales held in South Africa in 2006. Of the 1 500 Konsortium-Merino ram lambs born in Autumn 2006, 318 were entered for this sale.

Mother Nature plays a significant role in classing the Konsortium sale rams. After running on natural veld conditions for 10 months, only those that perform well are rounded off for the eight weeks prior to the sale. The preliminary classing once again showed that Merino’s with more wool on their bellies and heads don’t do as well. Cobus Vivier, Jan Joubert, Louis Hayward and Willie Kotze, all from BKB, did the final classing.

Approximately 1 000 of the 2 000 ewes on the forthcoming sale, belong to loyal Konsortium clients. Konsortium-Merino is proud to give them the opportunity to sell their approved ewes under it’s brandname.
