The ultimate Merino for Down UnderCreated on: 3 October 2006 “The Konsortium-Merino will revolutionise the breeding of Merino sheep in Australia,” is the opinion of David Thompson of Moojepin in Katanning, Western Australia. The moment David saw the Konsortium-Merino, he got very excited. “Here was a type of Merino with a body shape unlike any Merino I had seen before. I believe it is the ultimate Merino - particularly regarding traits such as bone structure, depth of body, width of body, good feet and strong, open heads. All of this, plus: long, soft, low micron wool of very high quality, on a wrinkle free skin.” David and Ken Duxson of Glendemar, both members of Australia’s Multi Purpose Merino group (MPM), attended Konsortium’s recent sale on Dombietersfontein, Victoria-West. “It seemed so much more than a ram sale. It was professionally run with every member of Konsortium having a job to do, with no job more or less important than another.” A highlight to them was Phil, going through every ram the afternoon before the sale, with 100 farmers hanging on every word he said. “The rams offered were of a very high standard. The thing that impressed me was that a farmer could have bought 20 or 30 rams all of a consistent type. That’s how you can turn flocks around very quickly.” David says the farmers he talked to would never buy rams anywhere else, due to the product and the integrity of the people behind the product. He is looking forward to playing a major role in infusing the Konsortium-Merino into as many Australian flocks as he can. “I believe the demand will be insatiable!” |
