Satisfied farmers testify

Created on: 2 August 2006

Throughout the country, farmers are talking about the impact that Konsortium-Merino is having on their flocks.

Lomon van Tonder from Dewetsdorp, says “crossbreeding is not necessary anymore. There is only one stud – and that is Konsortium-Merino.” Lomon’s group of Merino’s recently won the slaughter lamb competition where about 40 groups of 4 lambs each, competed. Various different breeds took part. Sias Hoffman, another Konsortium buyer from Dewetsdorp, was awarded fourth place for his group of lambs.

Phil van der Merwe from Victoria West, is adamant that the Konsortium-Merino’s carcass competes with any meat breed, and then it still shears a long (70mm – 80mm), medium to fine, good quality wool, every eight months.

Tommy Roux from Hofmeyr, claims that Konsortium rams will improve any flock. Derick Erasmus from Stutterheim, who received good prices for his clip this season says “this is what a Merino should look like.”
