First Poll Merino Sale

Created on: 12 August 2005

The first exclusively Poll Merino sale in SA, was held on 11 August 2005. Konsortium-Merino, Eddie Prinsloo of Heuningkrans, Smithfield and Eric Naude of Leopardsvlei, Richmond, pooled their resources for this landmark sale.

Fifty-eight rams were entered for this, the first Triton Poll Merino sale. The 33 rams on the sale averaged R4497 each. The highest price of R15 500 was paid by Wikus Bekker from the farm Geluksdam, Edenburg for a Konsortium ram.

In future the sale will take place on the second Thursday in August (the same date on which the traditional Merino SA sale was held), at the Bloemfontein showgrounds. Bokkie Kotze, from Jagersfontein, is the project manager. The breeders will strive to make this an annual event.
