Six SA champions

Created on: 20 February 2004

Konsortium-Merino, which prides itself in its large, plain-bodied merino′s with good ADG′s, was awarded six SA Champions at the 2004 Show for Measured Production:

  • SA Grand Champion Ram: overall excellence (R/c)
  • SA Grand Champion Ewe: overall excellence (R/c)
  • SA Grand Champion Ewe: weight gain (ADG)
  • SA Grand Champion Ewe: body weight
  • SA Grand Champion: Group of 3 rams and 3 ewes: body weight
  • SA Reserve Champion: Group of 3 rams and 3 ewes: body weight
  • SA Grand Champion: Highest Visual Score (overall)

Although the Konsortium-Merino produces less wool, its large carcass, low micron and good staple length won it the best ram and ewe (wool and meat income R/c) at the show. Konsortium-breeder, John Luscombe′s group of 6 rams and 6 ewes also gained the most points for wool and conformation in the hand-eye category. Therefore, Konsortium-Merino′s look good whilst still putting the rands and cents into your pocket.
